Outdoor Obstacle Course Play Date

Gross Motor Obstacle Course Activities

We love making backyard obstacle courses.  I set them up on a regular basis for my boys, and occasionally I set them up for our weekly play dates.  One of our all time favorite obstacle courses was our pool noodle obstacle course.  Obstacle courses make for great gross motor activities, and they are so much fun!  I got creative with this obstacle course and pulled out a few different items.

The course started with children crawling through a tunnel. Next they hopped over hurdles then ducked under a pair of my husband's Burro Brands Sawhorses.  The hurdles were made using jump ropes tied to paint cans.

The children walked across Stepping Domes that I set up in a snake pattern. These are a fantastic tool for balance and core strengthening.

After the domes I put out a few pool noodles for the kids to hop over.

Following the pool noodles I connected three jump ropes in curves for the children to straddle as they walked.

The course ended with a slippery ride down the slip and slide! The children spent most of their time here.

Many of our playgroup friends have babies and toddlers, so I set up a couple of activities for them, too. I filled our play pool with balls.

I recreated the Water Sensory Bin I put together a couple months ago.

  6. What fun! I love the idea of ending with a slip and slide. Those domes are so cool as well! We used to love obstacle courses when we were younger. I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to love them too.:)

  7. What a wonderful fun playdate - I wish I was more organised with playdates (bit of a disaster as they aren't very organised in the UK).
