Cookie Cutter Prints {Spring Painting Activity}

Print Making with Cookie Cutters

Print making with cookie cutters, spring art for kids

We love experimenting with print making.  One of my favorite ways to mix it up is by getting a new set of plastic cookie cutters for print making.  I found a set of four spring themed cookie cutters at Dollar Tree and set up an invitation to make spring paintings.

Supplies:

I set up the invitation on our train table.  I squirted paint on the paper in six places around the perimeter of the table and left the spring cookie cutters in the four corners.

J-Bug (3) immediately grabbed a flower shaped cookie cutter and dipped it into the paint.  In addition to making flower prints he enjoyed watching the results of rubbing the cookie cutter around in circles.

He studied the shape of the cookie cutter, dipped it in paint, then rubbed it on the paper again.

Peanut (19 months) was equally as excited to make cookie cutter prints with the paint.  He liked dipping the cookie cutter in the paint then rubbing it on himself.

After awhile the table looked like this:

In addition to making cookie cutter prints, the boys ran their fingers in the paint to see the marks they could make.  If the mess makes you think twice about letting your little ones paint, I encourage you to read my Tips and Tricks for Messy Play and Laundry Tips.

Tank (19 months) explored with print making a bit, but he mainly wanted to sit in my lap.

Their prints turned out quite lovely.  J-Bug made most of his prints with the thin side of the cookie cutter.  I love the way he always does his own thing.
