Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

The above photo cracks me up.  I had set out all of the ingredients needed to snap a quick photo before the boys and I started mixing, and JZ climbed onto the counter and posed.  What a cutie.

JZ was in charge of peeling the bananas and blending them in the Vitamix.

He loves helping and pushing the buttons, but he hates the sound.

Okay, after those photos chaos broke out, so I wasn't able to track the rest of our baking.  It went well, and the muffins turned out to be YUMMY.  It was the first time we used this recipe.  You can find the recipe at Skinny Taste.  I wrote about the importance of letting little ones join us in the kitchen HERE.

Another important reason I want my boys cooking by my side it to teach them healthy habits.  We choose whole grains, fresh foods, limit processed foods and avoid nasty ingredients such as high fructose corn syrup and red dye 40.  Of course sometimes convenience wins, but I do my best to instill healthy habits in my boys.  After all, they won't be under my careful watch forever.  I've got to make the most of our time spent together.

I added some wheat germ and used less chocolate chips than the recipe called for.  I used red wheat berries, ground in the Vitamix dry blade container for the flour.
