25 Days of Christmas - Day 2

I don't know about you, but I LOVE the Christmas season.  Last night we drove to my parents' house, so the boys could help decorate their tree. Looking at all of the lit up houses on the drive over really set the season in motion for me.  JZ and JM pointed out every house with lights and every decoration they had.  Mike and I were deep in an important discussion about our upcoming travels and the details.  The boys kept interrupting us to show us the lights.  What a wonderful age.  Nothing to worry about, they just sit back and take in the beauty of the season.  We could learn a thing or two from our children and how they see the world.

For Day Two we did another Pinterest inspired activity. I found this idea to decorate pine cones at The Wool Acorn. Since I didn't have any wool balls, I substituted them with pom poms. I put pine cones, pom poms, q-tips and glue in a bin with the lid secured.  The big boys and I sat at the table, and we took off the lid together, so the boys could see what was inside at the same time.  This time I had prepared myself.  I didn't have expectations in case they thought this craft was lame.  Their reactions did not disappoint.  Both JZ and JM oohed and ahed when they saw what was in the bin.
JZ quickly jumped into action, pouring some glue onto a tray for JM.  (JM does better with some glue already squirted out, then he applies the glue with a q-tip to the project.)  JM exercised great self control and took the contents out slowly.  I could tell he wanted to dump the whole bin by the way he kept eyeing me.

JZ thoroughly enjoyed putting ornaments on his Christmas tree.  (He quickly corrected me if I called it a pine cone.)  He told me the "robots" were doing all the work and made machine noises as he moved his hands robotically to glue the ornaments to the tree.

JM really just wanted to throw the pom poms in the air over and over and over.  He scooped them up with his "grabnabbers" (he loves Little Einsteins) and watched them fall back to the table.  Isn't it amazing how a toddler can perform the same act again and again and again with the same look of wonder each time as if it's the first?

What a simple yet fun craft this was.  Our Christmas trees are on our dining room table, so we can enjoy them for the whole month.
