Play with Numbers - Gross Motor Number Game

Gross Motor Number Recognition Activity

Gross motor number game for kids - making learning fun!

This post is sponsored by KneeBouncers, who believe in playing with purpose! Visit KneeBouncers.com for a multitude of fun games that will help your child get ready for preschool and be sure to try their new Great Play with Purpose iPad App! 45 funtabulous games that support preschool readiness and learning. Available NOW on iTunes and coming soon for Android. All opinions expressed in this article are my own.

We were given the full version of KneeBouncers Play with Purpose iPad app and got to explore the entire content.  Both of my older boys, JZ (6) and J-Bug (4) thought it was fun.  J-Bug is particularly drawn to airplanes right now, so his favorite game is Up in the Air, a game where you fly an airplane in the clouds and try to hit the clouds with a specific number in them.  Since he loves that game so much I thought it would be fun to set up a gross motor game with numbered clouds.  We had our own little flight school, to play with numbers.

Gross motor number recognition game kids will LOVE!

Directions:  I used sidewalk chalk paint to draw clouds on our driveway.  Sidewalk chalk would work well, of course, but the sidewalk chalk paint made the clouds nice and puffy.  I used a squeezy bottle to get the texture of the clouds just right.  Then I used sidewalk chalk to write the numbers.  I wrote a handful of numbers several times.  Then I called out a number to J-Bug and had him hold out his arms like an airplane and hop from number to number.  First I told him to find all the number 5's, then the number 12's, and so on.

He loved pretending to be an airplane!  Hopping with arms outstretched requires a lot of balance and is great for developing gross motor skills.  When we came back inside he asked to play KneeBoucners again, and he said that this time he was the airplane getting all the numbers.

  28. We've been playing outside with sidewalk chalk all week and having so much fun. My grand twins will love this fun new idea. They are stuck on mud puddles right now, (I have to rescue them in my pretend helicopter) so I think I'll turn the clouds into mud puddles and tell them they are ducks jumping from puddle to puddle! Amazed at all your boards on pinterest. Glad I found you!!!
