How to Dye Easter Eggs

Can I make a confession?  As much as we love crazy sensory play and fancy art projects we are pretty vanilla when it comes to dyeing Easter eggs.  We make our own egg dye, and I let the boys take the lead.  We do enjoy painting with Easter eggs and coming up with creative art projects with plastic eggs, but our egg dyeing is low key.

Directions:  Our recipe for homemade Easter egg dye is super simple.  We use roughly a tablespoon of vinegar per color and use about 1/4 cup of liquid watercolors.  I add the color and vinegar to water, and it's ready to use.  If we plan to eat the eggs we use food coloring, but I love the color options with watercolors.

The longer the eggs soak in the dye, the more vibrant the resulting colors will be.  When you're eggs are done soaking save the dye!  Check back tomorrow for some ideas using leftover dye.
