Color Mixing with Slime

Exploring Color Theory - Science for Kids

Learning about primary and secondary colors with homemade SLIME - exploring color theory through fine motor play.

We love exploring color theory through simple play.  After watching the colors of our rainbow slime blend and combine beautifully I was inspired to set up a color mixing activity using slime.  I purposefully made our glitter slime in the three primary colors, so we could mix it to create secondary colors.  Recently on a super hot day we were stuck inside, so I pulled out our sparkly slime to do some mixing.

Simple recipe for moon dust paint - kids will love making moon dust!

We've been on a glitter kick lately, so it seemed only natural that we make a sparkly paint recipe to go along with our moon study for unit two of My Father's World Kindergarten.  The boys had so much fun with our erupting moon dust, so the next day we made homemade moon dust paint.  We prefer homemade paint to store bought, and this paint recipe was a huge hit.

Erupting Moon Dust Prewriting Activity

Kindergarten Moon Unit Study

Erupting moon dust - recipe for play

We are well into unit two of My Father's World Kindergarten, and J-Bug is thrilled to be learning about the moon.  Unit one was all about the sun, so it naturally transitioned into this moon study.  The first of many activities that I'll be sharing is a moon dust prewriting activity.  I saw this moon dust sensory writing tray from The Imagination Tree, and I knew my boys would get a kick out of it.  Of course, I had to put my own erupting spin on it since my kiddos are all about the baking soda and vinegar lately.

Cornstarch Free Sidewalk Chalk Paint Recipe

The Best Sidewalk Chalk Paint - Recipe for Play

NEW two ingredient recipe for sidewalk chalk paint. This cornstarch free recipe dries in vivid shades and only calls for two ingredients. (One of them in water.)

I am bursting with excitement over this new sidewalk chalk paint recipe!  It's safe to say we are obsessed with making sidewalk chalk paint.  Who can blame us?  A recipe for play that is easy to make, provides hours of entertainment, and washes away clean with just water?  Yes please!  If I had one teeny, tiny complaint about sidewalk chalk paint, it's that it's hard to spread.  We've had the most luck using foam brushes or filling squeezy bottles with the paint, but I am thrilled to tell you that I've discovered a brand new sidewalk chalk recipe that spreads easily with a paintbrush, produces vibrant colors, and it only calls for two ingredients.  By the way, one of those ingredients is water.  Have I mentioned I'm excited?

Making Raisins

Kindergarten Sun Unit Study

How to make raisins - simple sun science for kids

We love My Father's World Kindergarten, and to wrap up unit one, a study of the sun, we made raisins.  We actually set up our grapes on day one of our sun study, but of course it took over a week for our grapes to become raisins.  J-Bug (5) was so proud of his raisins, and he checked on them everyday, eager for them to be done dehydrating.  This sun science activity was also a lesson in patience.

Painting with Ice Chalk and Oil

Easy Art Projects for Kids - Painting with Ice Chalk

Painting with ice chalk and oil - a simple activity that combines art and science

We're back with more easy art projects for kids, an on going series with some of the most creative bloggers around.  So far in this series we've made homemade paint brushes while exploring string, erupting watercolor absorption art while exploring with watercolors, tape resist art on foil while exploring resist art, and melted crayon art in the glue gun while experimenting with crayons.   The theme for today is exploring chalk.  I wanted to think outside of the box, so I set up an art activity with ice chalk as made popular by Reading Confetti.
