Playdough Recipe {Hershey Kiss Chocolate Playdough}

Hershey Kiss Playdough Recipe - Candy Activities for Kids

Today is day two of our Candy Activities for Kids series.  I am partnering with several other wonderful blogs to bring you ways to use up all your Halloween candy. Yesterday we made finger paint from Starburst candy for our painting with candy them.  Today's theme is sensory play.  We make all our own playdough and love experimenting with new materials to add different colors, scents and textures.  For our sensory play theme I challenged myself to make playdough using real candy.  What better candy to make playdough with than chocolate?  That's how this recipe for Hershey Kiss chocolate playdough came about.

How to Make Hershey Kiss Chocolate Playdough

Directions:  Unwrap the chocolate and melt it on the stove over medium heat, stirring often to avoid burning.  I used an entire 19.75 ounce bag of milk chocolates.  You can get away with more or less, depending on the consistency you want your dough.

While the chocolate is melting, combine the dry ingredients. I make my playdough in the Kitchen Aid mixer, and it turns out perfect every time.   If you don't have a Kitchen Aid mixer combine the dry ingredients in a bowl.  Bring the water to a boil.

Once the chocolate has melted remove it from the heat and quickly add both the water and the chocolate to the mixer, then let the mixer combine everything until a dough forms.

Allow to cool before playing. If the playdough is dry add some oil. I typically add a couple tablespoons of vegetable oil to my playdough, but I omitted it this time due to the butter in the chocolate.

    1. Yes it is technically edible since it is made up of food items, but it wouldn't taste very good. There is a lot of salt in the recipe.
